District History

There is a so called proverb through which Mymensingh had been introduced as one of the biggest districts of Indian continent. In the evolution of the largest district of India, it turned into six districts, but the importance of the district headquarters did not decrease in comparison. The district which is now known as Mymensingh district on the map of Bangladesh, is located 24002'31 "in 2502'56" north latitude and 89039'00 "to 91015'35" east longitude at the mid-north of Bangladesh. This land adjacent to Brahmaputra is a huge reservoir of fertile land education, art, literature and folk culture of Bangladesh.

The history of Mymensingh is very rich. The Garo Hills on the north, the forests of Bhawal Madhupur in the south, the Meghna water fountains originated from the Brahmaputra River on the west and the basin area of ​Someshwari Titas, Surma and Meghna and the area surrounded by the natural wall could always be seen as a rugged region. Mymensingh district has a different opinion among historians. And in the sixteenth century, the independent sultan of Bengal Syed Alauddin Husain Shah formed a new state in the region for his son Syed Nasir Uddin Nasrat Shah, hence the creation of the name of Nasrat Shahi or Nasirabad. Nasirabad as the source of the Solim era, the name is not mentioned anywhere except the educational institution. The name of the mamesing on Rennell's map, published in 1779, refers to the current 'Mymensingh' region. Before that, in the law-i-akbari, the 'mahman shahi' and 'mononningsh' governments are written in the vajuah paragana; which is known as the current Mymensingh. In view of this, the name Mymensingh was introduced before the time of Emperor Akbar's reign. When the zamindars of the area of ​​Mymensingh were requested to give the name of the district to Mymensingh, the government accepted it.

 

Mymensingh is known for its richness of natural beauty and diversity. Mymensingh, once known as the largest district of India, later became somewhat short of administrative requirements. Mymensingh was the second largest district of Pakistan-India, even after the recognition of Tangail District separate district in 1969.
